Ahoy there

I’m Sarah, a writer, journalist and soon-to-be sailor - and the dashing chap to my left is my boyfriend Charlie. 
As we drifted into our thirties after a decade together(!) we had a decision to make: buy a house and do the sensible thing… Or do something drastic. So, we quit our jobs and bought a boat. What could possibly go wrong?

Our plan

Our beautiful 48ft Beneteau Oceanis awaits us in Preveza, near Athens. From here, we’ll set sail across the Mediterranean, cruising along the coastlines of Turkey, Albania, Montenegro, Italy and Spain - eventually reaching Morocco, then the Canary Islands. Next - if we’re still talking to each other - we’ll hop to Cabo Verde and (gulp) across the Atlantic, to spend winter in the Caribbean and Americas. 
No doubt there will be storms and seasickness and sand in the bed (quelle horreur). But with fair weather and a following wind, we hope there will be lots of laughter, too.

Frequently asked questions

  • Erm. No. No I can’t. But I do make a terrific margarita! And what I lack in skill, I’ll make up for in enthusiasm. I mean really, how hard can it be? Charlie, on the other hand, is the very model of a modern sailor: natural navigator, anchor aficionado and terrific tier of knots.
